Theater, as we know, is a art in which people (actors or actresses) represent a certain story to an audience. Among the types of art, theater is known as the Thursday art, and can be staged through a script, created by screenwriters and playwrights, but it can also happen through the actors' improvisation.

As we will see, theater, as we know it, emerged in the Ancient Greece, and, since Classical Antiquity, it has become one of the most common and popular artistic languages ​​in Western societies. There is currently a large variety ofgenrestheatrical, which demonstrates the richness of this artistic language.

  • Encourage theater communities to promote their work and make governments aware of the importance of this art;

Theater, as a language and artistic expression, exists since the Antique, and different peoples, like Chinese and Indians, already performed the staging of certain events. already the Egyptians, in turn, performed small performances as part of rituals in honor of their gods.

However, the modern theaterwas inspired by greek theater. The very origin of the word theater comes from the Greek, theater, name used to refer to the place where people could watch plays in Ancient Greece. However, Greek theater only had two genres: tragedy and comedy.

The theater at that time was from lots of importance to life in the polis, as "it was intended to promote the feeling of responsibility and zeal for public affairs among citizens"|2|. Greek theater plays were performed outdoors and depicted stories involving kings and queens as well as the gods who were part of the local belief.

In Classical Antiquity, the theater also manifested itself in the roman culture, heavily influenced by the Greeks. The Romans were responsible for spread the theater across Europe, and the influence of Greco-Roman theater was still present in medieval Europe, although there was big prejudice against this art, especially during the High Middle Ages.

It was from the low middle age that theater has gained importance in Europe, and with the cultural transformations that took place from the rbirth, a number of theatrical groups have sprung up on the continent. Over time, new genres appeared, such as drama, which emerged around the 18th century.

At the Brazil context, it is said that the theater was introduced, in the 16th century, by the Jesuits.
