In recent weeks, information has circulated on the internet that the administrative board of OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, would have received warnings about an AI potentially dangerous to humanity.

The information, which comes from the Reuters news agency, also showed that the new super intelligent algorithm would be able to solve simple mathematical problems in a completely different way than what had been seen until then.

Instead of using conventional machine learning, the ChatGPT and Google Bard training method, for example, the new AI would have a more complex architecture, capable of making it a 'super AI'.

Q*, or Q-Star, for those close to you

According to information obtained by Reuters, the AI that is alarming experts is Q*, or Q-Star (in the pronunciation of its name).

As mentioned above, this AI is capable of solving simple mathematical problems. However, so far there is nothing new, as ChatGPT and other AIs are also capable of doing this.

The point is that to provide answers to mathematical problems, other AI models use simple and straightforward methodologies. direct, using mathematical probabilities in an exact way, more or less like calculators do conventional.

On the other hand, Q-Star would be using a method that we can call “understanding” to solve problems. In other words, this new AI would be “thinking” to resolve issues, just as we humans do.

This leap from using raw processing to a form of understanding raises the bar for AI to a concept called “artificial general intelligence,” or IAG.

According to some experts who have already studied IAG, it would be capable of making machines capable of “thinking for themselves”, outperforming human beings in a series of more complex tasks.

In this sense, IAG can make the lives of criminals who are using techniques such as deepfake and voice cloning, for example, to carry out scams and create divisions.

For all these reasons, the emergence of Q* and the possible appearance of AIs similar to it requires great vigilance on the part of authorities. After all, the misuse of technology with these characteristics can, in fact, harm humanity.
