The Budgetary Guidelines Bill (PLDO) for 2023 was recently sent to the National Congress by the Federal Government. This contains several changes, including the readjustment of the minimum wage for next year. The new minimum wage
The National Consumer Price Index (INPC) is the index used by the Federal Government to measure advances in inflation. For this reason, it is used as a reference for calculating the readjustment of the minimum wage, INSS benefits, unemployment insurance, among others.
However, this readjustment forecast is not definitive. It is still possible that there will be increases beyond what was estimated. Therefore, in cases like this, the minimum wage will undergo a further readjustment in addition to this forecast.
According to the forecast, the minimum wage will increase from the current 1,212 reais to 1,294 reais, suffering an adjustment of R$ 82. In addition to the estimates for the year 2022, the government also stipulated the national floor for the next three years. Thus, in 2024, it will correspond to the value of R$ 1,337, and in 2025, R$ 1,378.
According to data provided by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese), 56 million Brazilians use the minimum wage as the basis of their families. Of that number, about 24 million are INSS insured.
However, based on the survey of the average value of the basic food basket in the country in March, Dieese estimates that a slightly different value would be needed for this payment. According to the Department, the ideal minimum wage for a Brazilian family of only four people (two adults and two children), should be R$ 6,394.76, almost five times higher than the national minimum suggested for 2023.
