In an account posted on Instagram, a woman described some moments of terror and agony she experienced while playing with her little nephew.

According to the young woman, identified only as Kendall, she was playing with the child when she realized that something was positioned between her teeth and that, at first, it looked like a piece of gum.

"Tonight while holding my nephew I saw some pink in his mouth so I investigated further and saw what I thought was a bubble gum," she said.

However, observing the situation better, Kendall realized that what the child had in his mouth was a plastic sphere that had come loose from a pop-it, a very popular toy worldwide.

Immediately the woman took pictures of the situation, called the child's mother, who is her sister, and removed the object from her nephew's mouth.

Among the photos that she included in the post, Kendall also placed images of the toy, which at first glance seems completely harmless. However, if the young woman had not noticed the situation in time, the sphere, which was made of rubber, could have descended into her nephew's throat and asphyxiated him.

Kendall further explains that the rubber sphere was pressing the child's gums and causing swelling in the region. After the happy ending, the young woman warned parents about the dangers of giving this type of toy to their children.

“We just wanted to let other moms and dads know that these toys may have defective parts. This piece [that was in the nephew's mouth] must have broken and fell to the floor, so the baby picked it up and put it in his mouth, ”she explained. “This could have easily been swallowed and become a choking hazard,” she continued.

Finally, Kendall asked other users to share the story to raise awareness around the dangers posed by pop-it and other toys that have removable parts.

“I know these toys are very popular these days so please share this story to raise awareness,” she requested.

The impact of the case

The comments section of the post made by Kendall was flooded with scared comments within minutes of the post being made.

In the comments, several fathers, mothers and guardians of young children expressed fear. “Now, I'll have to keep an eye on my kids. That's scary!” exclaimed a concerned parent.

“I was thinking of getting one of these for my kids, but decided against it. New fear unlocked”, pondered another parent.

Reports like Kendall's only reinforce the need to be careful when buying toys for young children.

If you have children between the ages of 1 and 6, do not allow them access to toys and other products that have removable parts.

They can end up choking or swallowing the piece and having even worse complications. All care is little!
