Porto Alegrense Foot-Ball Grêmio

It was through Cândido Dias da Silva, from São Paulo, who worked in Porto Alegre, that Grêmio was created. The story is curious: there was a soccer match to show the sport, in the state capital, with English and German guest players. During the match, the ball exploded and Cândido, who had a ball in his hands but did not know how to play, lent his own to make the game's end possible. At the end of the game, the players taught Cândido the rules of the sport, and also how to set up a club. Thus, with thirty-two participants present, on September 15, 1903, Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense was founded.

In the first two decades of its existence, Grêmio was an amateur team, even though it played some games with other teams in the city. After this period, a phase of professionalization of football began, and Grêmio established itself as one of the great Brazilian teams, reflected in the number of titles that will be described to follow:

- International bonds:

- Interclub World Cup in 1983;
- Copa Libertadores da América in 1983 and 1995;

The representative colors of the club are light blue and white. Currently, the official game uniform consists of a shirt with blue, white and black vertical stripes, black shorts and white socks with blue details. This uniform is very different from the first official uniform the club had, as the players wore white socks and shorts and a dark red shirt with horizontal white and black stripes.

The club's first flag, displayed during matches, was striped in blue, black and white, with the club's symbol at the top left. However, the one used today is different: it is a blue background cut by thin vertical stripes, horizontal and diagonals, so that they all intersect in the center of the flag, where the symbol is located. of the Guild.

The guild has already had two hymns of praise for the club, before the current one. The first was written in 1924, and the second, in 1946, was the result of a competition promoted by the Grêmio. Currently, the official anthem of Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense was written by the famous composer Lupicínio Rodrigues. Here are the lyrics of this very popular hymn:

"We'll even walk
for whatever comes and goes
but what is certain is that we will be
with the Grêmio wherever the Grêmio is

fifty years of glory
you have tricolor immortal
the deeds of your history
sing the Rio Grande with love

(chorus)

We like good fans
without even hesitating
we will applaud the Guild
wherever the guild is

(chorus)

Lara the immortal ace
knew your name to rise
today with the same ideal
we will know how to honor you"
